What is an open auction?

An open auction sources machines from multiple locations across North America, allowing a wide range of buyers to bid on listed equipment within a defined timeframe, creating competitive pricing through bidding.

What is a facility auction?

A facility auction involves selling all or most equipment from a manufacturing facility, often due to closure, downsizing, relocation, or surplus.

Who can participate in open auctions?

Buyers, dealers, and resellers can all participate, depending on auction terms set by the seller or auctioneer.

Are open auctions limited to certain machine types?

No. Open auctions may include CNC machines, fabrication equipment, tooling, and other industrial assets.

How do buyers place bids?

Bidding is handled through MTB and BidSpotter, as MTB is the only platform that is dual synced. You can bid on MTB’s auction platform or on Bidspotter’s. The platform provides visibility and access to auction details, and increased visibility due to leveraging both sites.

What Are Machine Auctions?

Machine auctions are platforms where equipment like CNC machines, fabrication tools, plastics, and aerospace machinery are bought and sold through bidding. The highest bidder wins and completes the purchase at the final price.

Why choose an open auction instead of a fixed price?

Open auctions can help sellers maximize value by increasing visibility and allowing market demand to determine pricing. Auctions also put urgency in the market as the machine will be sold on a specific date. Also, if sellers are in need of immediate space, auctions are the fastest way to free up space.

When are the open auctions?

Open auctions are the second and last Wednesday of each month.  Single facility events happen throughout any given month and various dates.

How are facility auctions promoted?

Facility auctions are promoted to targeted buyers searching for machine tool auctions, through targeted email campaigns, third party auction promoters, search and display campaigns, and social media campaigns, increasing visibility among dealers, end users, and resellers.

Can I sell equipment individually instead of at auction?

Yes. Sellers can choose between auction formats or direct listings depending on timeline, pricing goals, and equipment type.

Do facility auctions attract serious buyers?

Yes! Facility auctions attract qualified buyers actively looking for used CNC machines, fabrication equipment, and shop assets at competitive prices.

Timed Auctions

The first lot will start closing at 11am CST, unless noted otherwise. Lots will have extended time as users continue to bid on lots. Once the auction closes invoices will be sent and payment is due within 48 hours.

Live Webcast

This will have a live auctioneer going through each lot, calling out the item and price increments, lots will continue until closed. Once the auction closes invoices will be sent and payment is due within 48 hours.

How do I register to bid for an online auction with MTB?

To register for an auction on the MTB platform you need to create a general Machine Tool Bids account. This general account allows you to easily view photos, get quotes, send messages and view any save listings. This account will also be your credentials to register for each auction you chose to participate in.
